1st Grade Teacher

“The best teacher is the one who suggests rather than dogmatizes, and inspires his listener with the wish to teach himself.”

Class Information

Hi! My name is Sheri Schroeder. I have been very fortunate to be a primary grade teacher at Millville school for the past 18 years. I grew up in Redding and graduated from Enterprise High School. I graduated with my B.A. from Chico State, and then achieved my teaching credential from Simpson College.

I have been married to my husband, Jon, for 26 years. We have two beautiful daughters, who are both in college. My family and I love traveling, going camping, playing sports, cooking, and spending memorable times hosting and entertaining family and friends.

My desire to teach became evident when I was a child myself. It was during my free time in the summer when I would search page by page through some educational books that I had once received as a gift from my grandparents. I would earmark my favorite pages, copy them at my mom’s work, then staple the pages into packets. Afterwards, I would anxiously head home and begin making posters to hang on our garage to advertise my “fun-filled summer school.” My younger sisters and 4-5 of their neighborhood friends would eagerly sign –up for my school. I was so excited to plan many challenging activities, games, and learning fun for them.

My love for helping children continued to grow as I would consistently volunteer to help with younger students in other classes at my elementary school where I attended. My teaching desire then evolved into teaching swim lessons to children during the summer months.

I currently teach first grade and I enjoy the many challenges this early grade level provides. It is such a joy to be an educational part of so many children’s lives, helping to teach, as a team with their parents, the foundation and building blocks to their many educational years which lie ahead. The excitement of listening to a child read and seeing a child add two numbers together for the first time are extremely rewarding.
